We are in a state of emergency. In Ohio alone, 10,000 people are addicted to opioids, an average of 84 infants are being treated for drug withdrawal in Ohio hospitals, and 10 Ohioans die every day due to opiate-related deaths.
Children are the unintended victims of this crises. Over the last year, there are 1,000 more children in foster care and in need of adoption in Summit and Cuyahoga Counties. CNN reported in May of 2017 that opioids are creating a generation of parentless children. Something has to change. It is time for the Church to address this crisis and commit to pray, care for, and protect these precious children and the lives of those struggling with addiction.
